Researchers are now trying Wellbutrin SR for weight loss.
Wellbutrin SR (bupropion) is chemically related to the appetite suppressant, Tenuate (diethylpropion).
A preliminary study suggests that Wellbutrin SR may initially help some people lose weight...but there's a question about whether it's effective for LONG-TERM weight loss.
We used to think that Prozac (fluoxetine) caused weight loss...but now we know that chronic use can lead to weight GAIN.
Don't recommend bupropion for weight loss...but keep it in mind for patients who need an antidepressant that is less likely to cause weight gain.
